Our favourite home EV chargers

We are often asked by our customers for recommendations for EV chargers to install at home.

What we recommend always depends on each individual customer’s circumstances and the answers to a two key questions.

Do you have solar panels (or would like to get them in the future)?

If so, we usually recommend installing a smart charger that can use solar power when it is available.

For those without solar, we also sell and install chargers that are not solar aware, and these will charge your car at a set rate whenever you plug in.

Do you want to be able to control your charger through an app (remotely)?

Some people love remote charging technology, and others prefer to be able to plug in without needing to use their phone!

We have many options available, with photos and prices all available in our shop if you’d like more information at all.

We have free local delivery and pickup in Hobart for all EV chargers, and free Australia-wide shipping if you’d like it posted to you.

Our most commonly recommended EV chargers include:

  • SEVR

  • Evnex

  • Ohme

  • Wallbox

Check out some of our top picks, and photos of recent installations so you can see the chargers in action.

SEVR EV charger

SEVR EV charger (untethered)

The SEVR EV charger is simple and sleek.

We recommend it for customers wanting a good quality and affordable option - no bells and whistles or smart charging, but a great basic option.

This charger is untethered, meaning it does not come with a cable attached to it and you will need to purchase a cable separately.

Luckily, SEVR sell really affordable and good quality cables, which we also sell in our shop.

ZAPPI EV charger

Zappi EV charger (untethered)

The Zappi EV charger is very popular, and what we have installed at our home.

We love this charger, because we can set it so that it only charges the car when there is excess solar power being generated. This is a really great way of soaking up excess solar during the day, and saving it from going back onto the grid (we don’t get a great feed in tariff for our solar power).

We also love it because we control the charger from the screen on the charger, and we don’t need to open up an app.

We have customers who call this their ‘outside television’ because it also shows you how much solar power your home is producing in real time and how much is being used in your home.

EVNEX charger

EVNEX EV charger (tethered, 5 metre cable)

This charger is sooo smart, just look at it blending in here!

This charger is made in New Zealand, and comes in a range of natural colours. This EV charger is really smart and can connect to your solar panels.

The charger is tethered, which mean it has a cable already attached and ready to plug into your car.

This charger must be controlled via an app on your phone, which shows you how much solar is being generated, how much power is being used in your home and how much power is being sent to your car!

OHME charger

OHME charger (untethered)

The Ohme chargers are a smart option and have a great 3 year warranty.

We love installing these smart chargers, as they are simple and good quality.

Once again, these chargers will allow you to use excess solar power to charge your car.

This version is untethered, so you will need to purchase a charging cable separately (sold in our online shop).

Wallbox EV charger

Wallbox EV charger (tethered, 5 metre cable)

We love the Wallbox EV charger as well.

The Wallbox is a smart charger that can use grid, solar or battery power to charge your electric vehicle. Its nice and small allowing you to be flexible when choosing where to install your EV charger.

The charger can be controlled via an app, or we can help you set up RFID cards to turn the charger off and on.

Wallbox also has a charger that can be monetised, which is great for businesses or commercial sites.
