How much does it cost to install a charger?

Electrical installation of a home charger for electric vehicles in Tasmania costs between $650 to $2,000 excluding the cost of the charger.

Installation costs will depend on a few things, including:

  • the distance between the EV charger and your main switchboard

  • current capability of your main switchboard, and

  • capabilities of the EV charger being installed (solar monitoring, load balancing, 3 phase etc.)

With a solar integrated charger, it can be free to charge your EV at home!

Most EVs are charged at homes or workplaces and can be scheduled to take advantage of either cheap electricity from solar during the day, or from off-peak tariffs overnight.

This can equate to as much as a 90% saving compared to a petrol or diesel vehicle.

The cost of charging your EV at home will depend on when you charge your EV, and how large your car battery is.

If you have a large car battery of around 60kWh and charge at peak times, the maximum cost of a full charge at home on the highest energy tariff of around 38 cents per kWh would be around $10. Far cheaper than a tank of petrol or diesel!
