Why every business should prepare for EV charging
Every month, more Tasmanians are making the switch to EVs, and the numbers keep climbing across Australia.
That means more of your staff, customers, and tenants will soon be looking for somewhere to plug in.
If your business doesn’t have EV charging yet, now’s the time to start planning.
We run our electrical company out of an electric fleet, including Tassie’s first 100% electric tradie van. We know first hand the challenges and opportunities this presents, including for fleet charging.
We’d love to work with you to make the transition in your business, or support your customers and staff to charge at your business.
EVs are increasing
Australia is in the middle of an electric transport shift.
We’re passionate about this shift to clean electric transport. Replacing a fossil fuel vehicle with an electric vehicle (even better, active or public transport where this is accessible) is a key way we can reduce emissions and tackle climate change.
If you still have doubts, check out our article on whether EVs are actually better for the environment here.
As a verified social enterprise, we put people and planet first in our operations. We want to make sure the clean energy transition is fast, but also fair and includes everyone.
In exciting news, over the past two years, EV sales have doubled, and government incentives are making it easier for people to buy them.
Tasmania, in particular, is leaning into clean energy transport, with targets to phase out fossil fuel cars in the years ahead.
According to the Electric Vehicle Council, in the first half of 2025, EVs (battery electric + plug-in hybrid) made up over 12% of all new car sales in Australia — up from about 9.6% during the same period in 2024.
In June 2025 alone, EVs accounted for almost 16% of new car sales in Australia.
This growth isn’t slowing down. Soon, EV charging will be an expectation in workplaces, shopping centres, and apartment complexes.
The business case for EV charging
So why should your business prepare for EV charging now?
Happy staff – Offering charging at work makes life easier for employees who drive EVs, and it shows you’re a forward-thinking workplace. This also encourages people to charge their EVs during the day, taking pressure off the power grid at peak times.
Attract more customers – Drivers actively seek out businesses where they can top up while they shop, dine, or work out.
Fleet efficiency – Switching company vehicles to EVs cuts running costs and meets sustainability targets. Having your own chargers keeps your fleet moving.
Property value – For landlords and strata managers, installing chargers now makes your property more attractive and future-proof.

Home vs business charging
You might already know about EV charging at home — we help plenty of Tasmanians with simple, reliable home charging setups.
But business charging is a little different.
Instead of one or two vehicles, you might be powering ten, twenty, or more.
Smart load management ensures your building’s power supply keeps up.
Access control and billing systems make sure usage is fair and trackable.
And of course, compliance and safety requirements are stricter in commercial spaces.
That’s where we come in.
We’ll design a solution that fits your site, your budget, and your long-term goals.
(but if you’re also curious about what home charging looks like, here’s our page on EV charging at home.)
How to get started
Preparing your business for EV charging doesn’t have to be complicated:
Site assessment – We’ll check your power supply and design a system that suits your site.
Scalable installation – Start small, with the option to expand as demand grows.
Ongoing support – Maintenance, compliance checks, and future upgrades when you need them. Education and training for you and your staff when needed.
The road ahead
The clean energy transition is already underway — and EVs are a big part of it.
By installing chargers now, your business isn’t just keeping up with the change; you’re leading it.
Whether you’re a café that wants to offer customer charging, a property manager preparing for tenant demand, or a business running a growing EV fleet, we’re here to help you power the future.
