EV charging for hotels, Airbnbs and accommodation in Tasmania
Attract more EV-driving guests with the help of the Tasmanian EV Charger Grant
More travellers are choosing electric vehicles, and many now look for accommodation where they can conveniently charge overnight.
On a recent family trip from Hobart up to Launceston, we spent ages trying to find accommodation with charging for our EV, so we could charge our car overnight before travelling the following day.
Unfortunately accommodation with EV charging options was scarce and really limited where we could stay.
Many government agencies and businesses are transitioning their fleets to electric, and are facing similar problems when travelling around Tassie for work.
Installing EV charging options will become increasingly important for accommodation providers to stay ahead, and offer a premium hospitality experience for both tourists and business customers.

If you get solar later down the track, you can upgrade to solar smarts for a one-off fee of $349. If you're planning on getting solar installed in the next 12 months, we'd suggest getting our E2 Core or E2 Plus.
What's included?
Evnex E2 Flex smart EV charger (7.4kW)

Home overload protection
Includes power sensor (CT)

Important notes
The E2 Flex does not come with the Tesla charge port integration or the Tesla battery state of charge integration. For these features, please look at our E2 Plus model.
All Evnex chargers require an internet connection for continued operation. This can be provided via WiFi, 4G SIM (cellular), or Ethernet (depending on the charger model). Chargers can operate (without smart features) for up to 28 days at a time without connection.

How much does an EV charger cost?
How much does it cost to install a charger?
Electrical installation of a home charger for electric vehicles in Tasmania costs between $650 to $2,000 excluding the cost of the charger.
Installation costs will depend on a few things, including:
the distance between the EV charger and your main switchboard
current capability of your main switchboard, and
capabilities of the EV charger being installed (solar monitoring, load balancing, 3 phase etc.)
With a solar integrated charger, it can be free to charge your EV at home!
Most EVs are charged at homes or workplaces and can be scheduled to take advantage of either cheap electricity from solar during the day, or from off-peak tariffs overnight.
This can equate to as much as a 90% saving compared to a petrol or diesel vehicle.
The cost of charging your EV at home will depend on when you charge your EV, and how large your car battery is.
If you have a large car battery of around 60kWh and charge at peak times, the maximum cost of a full charge at home on the highest energy tariff of around 38 cents per kWh would be around $10. Far cheaper than a tank of petrol or diesel!
